Job Description

My client school are seeking a passionate and nurturing Reception Teacher to join their dedicated Early Years team on a fixed-term basis to cover a maternity leave for the 2025–2026 academic year. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in children’s early learning journey at a warm and inclusive primary school in Medway.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver a creative, engaging, and developmentally appropriate Early Years curriculum in line with the EYFS framework.

  • Provide a stimulating, safe, and supportive learning environment that promotes independence and curiosity.

  • Monitor, assess, and record children’s progress, using observations and data to inform next steps.

  • Work closely with teaching assistants, SENCO, and external agencies to meet the needs of all pupils.

  • Develop strong relationships with pupils, parents/carers, and colleagues to support each child’s well-being and development.

  • Maintain a well-organised and enriching learning space, both indoors and outdoors.

  • Contribute to whole school life and actively participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, and professional development.

  • Uphold the school’s safeguarding policies and procedures at all times.


Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

  • Recent experience teaching in an Early Years or Reception class.

  • Excellent understanding of the EYFS curriculum and early child development.

  • A creative and reflective approach to teaching.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Commitment to inclusion, high standards, and continuous professional development.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a Medway or Kent primary setting.

  • Knowledge of assessment tools used in EYFS (e.g., Tapestry or similar).

  • Experience supporting children with a range of learning needs, including EAL and SEND.
