We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and compassionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our dedicated SEND team. We are looking for a proactive and resilient individual with a passion for supporting children with a wide range of special educational needs, helping every student to achieve their full potential.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a close-knit and supportive school community that values the well-being and professional development of all its staff.

The Role

As our HLTA with a SEND specialism, you will be a key member of our SEND team and a role model to both students and colleagues. You will be responsible for leading and delivering high-quality, personalised learning interventions for individuals and small groups of pupils with varying SEND needs.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering planned lessons and specific learning activities to individuals and small groups, adapting as necessary under the supervision of a teacher or SENCo.
  • Coordinating and delivering targeted interventions for pupils with SEND, including those with SEMH, communication and interaction needs, cognition and learning difficulties, and sensory/physical needs.
  • Supporting the class teacher in the preparation of differentiated lessons and resources.
  • Contributing to the assessment, recording, and reporting of pupils’ development, progress, and attainment.
  • Acting as a point of contact for parents/carers of pupils you work with, fostering strong home-school relationships.
  • Contributing to the review process for Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Assisting in managing pupil behaviour in a nurturing and proactive way, promoting positive relationships and social skills.
  • Supervising pupils during unstructured times, such as lunch and playtime.
  • Providing support and guidance to other teaching assistants.
  • Attending and contributing to relevant school meetings and training sessions.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for an enthusiastic, confident, and resilient individual who demonstrates a strong commitment to inclusion and a genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of pupils with SEND.

Essential criteria:

  • HLTA status or a commitment to gaining the qualification.
  • Relevant Level 3 qualification or equivalent experience.
  • GCSE Grade 4 (C) or above in English and Maths (or equivalent).
  • Proven experience of supporting children with a range of special educational needs in an educational setting.
  • Excellent communication, literacy, and numeracy skills.
  • A solid understanding of safeguarding procedures and the Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team and to show initiative.
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach.

Desirable criteria:

  • Specialist training in areas such as Makaton, PECS, Team Teach, or specific SEND strategies.
  • Experience working in a multi-agency environment.
  • Experience of supervising other adults.

Why Join Us?

In return, we can offer you a welcoming and inclusive school environment where every child is valued. You will benefit from:

  • A supportive and collaborative team of experienced professionals.
  • A strong commitment to staff well-being and professional development.
  • The chance to make a profound and positive impact on the lives of our pupils.
