Salary: MPS/UPS + SEN Allowance (dependent on experience)

The Role

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Maths SEN Teacher to deliver differentiated and accessible maths lessons across Key Stage 3 and 4. You will be responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing a personalised curriculum that enables each student to achieve meaningful academic progress while also building confidence and life skills.

You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team including SENCOs, speech and language therapists, pastoral staff, therapists and dedicated support assistants to ensure every learner receives the guidance and support they need.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver high-quality, individualised maths lessons that reflect each pupil’s EHCP targets.
  • Create an inclusive, structured, and engaging classroom environment that supports a wide range of needs.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods, including visual aids, manipulatives, interactive technology, and practical maths activities.
  • Assess pupils’ progress using a range of formative and summative tools, providing clear feedback and adapting lesson plans accordingly.
  • Liaise effectively with families, carers, and external professionals to support consistent learning and behaviour strategies.
  • Maintain accurate records of pupil attainment, behaviour, and engagement in line with school policies and OFSTED requirements.
  • Contribute to wider school life, including participation in enrichment activities and whole-school initiatives.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Proven experience teaching maths at secondary level (KS3/KS4)
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN in a school, PRU, or specialist provision
  • Strong knowledge of differentiation strategies and multi-sensory approaches to teaching maths
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Patience, adaptability, and a trauma-informed, pupil-centred teaching approach

Desirable:

  • Additional SEN qualifications (e.g., NASENCO, Autism Education Trust training, Team Teach)
  • Experience delivering Entry Level or Functional Skills maths qualifications
  • Familiarity with EHCP processes and behaviour support plans
