Job Description

Are you a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), particularly within Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) settings?  Are you looking for a new and exciting role?  HLTAs play a pivotal role in supporting students with diverse learning needs – your skillset is needed! 

We currently have a number of schools in Maidstone that require HLTAs or Teaching Assistants looking to progress their career and move into a HLTA position.

Whether you have experience with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, EBD, MLD or PMLD – please do get in touch, as we have a number of vacancies working in different areas of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Support: Assist in delivering a broad and balanced curriculum, adapting materials to meet individual student needs.​
  • Individual and Group Interventions: Plan and deliver targeted interventions, both one-on-one and in small groups, to support students' academic and personal development.
  • Behaviour Management: Implement effective behaviour management strategies in line with school policies to maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Assessment and Monitoring: Support the monitoring and recording of student progress, providing feedback to teachers and contributing to the planning process.​
  • Classroom Preparation: Prepare the classroom for lessons, ensuring resources are available and the environment is conducive to learning.​
  • Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, SENDCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), and other professionals to ensure a cohesive approach to supporting students.
  • Safeguarding: Adhere to safeguarding policies and procedures, ensuring the welfare of all students.​

Qualifications and Experience

  • HLTA Status: Possession of a Level 4 or higher HLTA qualification is typically required.  Please call to discuss experience, as there are different roles for varying levels of experience and qualifications.
  • SEND Experience: Demonstrated experience working with students with SEND, including those with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Educational Background: A good understanding of the UK National Curriculum and experience in delivering lessons or interventions.​
  • Personal Qualities: Patience, empathy, strong communication skills, and the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
