We are looking for a caring, adaptable, and resilient Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team in a hospital school setting. You will support children and young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs and/or long-term medical conditions who are receiving treatment or recovering in hospital.

This is a unique and highly rewarding role where no two days are the same, and where your support can make a lasting difference in a young person’s life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils in 1:1 and small group settings to access a personalised curriculum
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and differentiated lessons
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with learners facing emotional and medical challenges
  • Help manage behaviour with empathy, structure, and consistency
  • Liaise with teachers, medical staff, families, and external agencies as needed
  • Create a calm, safe, and inclusive learning environment within the hospital setting

About You

We’re seeking someone who is:

  • Empathetic and emotionally intelligent, with a calm and patient approach
  • Experienced in supporting children or young people with SEMH and/or medical needs (in education, care, or health settings)
  • A strong team player who can work collaboratively with professionals and families
  • Flexible, resilient, and able to adapt to a constantly changing environment

Desirable but not essential:

  • A relevant Level 2 or 3 TA qualification
  • Training or experience in trauma-informed approaches, safeguarding, or medical awareness
