Are you a passionate and resilient educator who believes that relationships come first? Do you thrive on creating safe spaces where children with communication and emotional needs can truly belong?
Our specialist school caters to primary-aged pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and associated social, emotional, and communication difficulties. We are seeking a dedicated KS1 Nurture Teacher to support 4 pupils.
In this role, you will bridge the gap between early childhood development and formal learning, using nurture principles to help vulnerable learners build trust, regulate their emotions, and re-engage with education.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver High-Quality, Differentiated Teaching: Plan and deliver a highly personalised, creative, and play-based curriculum tailored to the specific learning and developmental pathways of KS1 pupils with ASC.
- Create a Safe, Therapeutic Environment: Establish a language-rich, low-arousal, and predictable classroom that promotes emotional regulation and well-being.
- Implement Nurture Principles: Run the classroom using a trauma-informed lens, focusing heavily on social skills, communication, and emotional development alongside academic progress.
- Target Individual Progress: Work closely with the SENDCo and the wider therapeutic team to track and implement specific EHCP targets.
- Collaborative Leadership: Direct and support classroom Teaching Assistants to ensure consistent, positive behaviour support throughout the school day.
The Ideal Candidate
- Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Possesses proven experience teaching primary-aged pupils within a SEND, ASC, or Alternative Provision setting.
- Demonstrates a deep understanding of early childhood development, ASC strategies (e.g., TEACCH, PECS, Attention Autism), and trauma-informed practices.
- Displays exceptional patience, resilience, and a playful approach to teaching complex learners.
- Is a strong team player committed to working alongside Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and families.
What We Offer
- Exceptionally small class sizes with a high staff-to-pupil ratio, just 4 pupils in this class with strong LSA support.
- A supportive, collaborative, and inclusive working culture.
- Access to extensive professional development, including certified Nurture and Trauma-Informed training.
- A comprehensive employee assistance and wellness programme.
