We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic English Teacher with a strong understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to join our inclusive and supportive team. This is a rewarding opportunity to inspire, support and empower students with ASD to develop their confidence and skills in English language and literature.

You will be responsible for planning and delivering tailored English lessons to students with ASD, either in a dedicated SEN school in the historic city of Rochester. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to differentiate content, manage diverse learning needs, and create an inclusive, structured learning environment where students can thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Employ visual supports, structured teaching methods, and sensory-aware approaches.
  • Work collaboratively with SENCOs, teaching assistants, therapists, and parents/carers.
  • Foster a calm, respectful, and positive classroom environment.
  • Monitor and assess progress regularly, providing clear feedback and guidance.

About You:

Essential:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Experience teaching English at KS3/KS4 level.
  • Proven understanding of autism and experience working with students with ASD.
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills tailored to SEN environments.
  • Patience, resilience, creativity, and a compassionate approach to teaching.

Desirable:

  • Additional qualifications in SEN or ASD-specific training (e.g. TEACCH, PECS, SPELL).
  • Experience working in a special school or resource base.

What We Offer:

  • A warm, collaborative and nurturing school community.
  • Access to continuous CPD, including autism-specialist training.
  • A strong school community with activities and well being support.
  • A chance to genuinely shape the educational journey of neurodiverse learners.
