We are seeking a passionate, experienced, and dedicated English Teacher to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of ASD, differentiated instruction, and a creative approach to teaching English to meet a wide range of needs and abilities.

The school is an independent specialist provision dedicated to delivering high-quality, inclusive education for children and young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The school is a nurturing and structured environment where every pupil is supported to achieve their full potential both academically and socially.

The Role

As our English Teacher, you will be responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing high-quality English lessons tailored to pupils with ASD across Key Stages 3 and 4. You will play a key role in helping pupils develop communication, literacy, and analytical skills through an engaging, structured, and supportive curriculum.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver differentiated English lessons that meet the individual learning needs of students with ASD.
  • Create a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment conducive to the social, emotional, and academic development of pupils.
  • Use a range of communication strategies (e.g., visual supports, simplified language, assistive technology) to support understanding and engagement.
  • Work collaboratively with SENCOs, speech and language therapists, teaching assistants, and families to support individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies.
  • Monitor and assess pupil progress, maintaining accurate records and using assessment data to inform planning.
  • Contribute to whole-school development and participate in ongoing CPD (Continuing Professional Development) to enhance your practice.
  • Support pupils’ transition and development of life skills where appropriate.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Experience teaching KS3 and KS4 English GCSE and Functional Skills.
  • Experience working with children or young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Strong understanding of ASD and evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning for pupils with SEN.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Resilient, flexible, and reflective approach to teaching and learning.

Desirable:

  • SEN/ASC specific training or qualification (e.g., NASENCO, TEACCH, PECS, SCERTS).

What We Offer

  • A supportive and forward-thinking leadership team.
  • Opportunities for professional development and specialist training.
  • Small class sizes with high staff-to-pupil ratios.
  • A well-resourced teaching environment tailored to SEN education.
  • Access to staff wellbeing programmes and employee assistance services.

Safeguarding Statement

Kent Teaching Solutions is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and other pre-employment checks.
