Are you a neurodiversity champion who sees behaviour as communication and a challenge as a puzzle waiting to be solved?
We are seeking a Specialist ASC Teacher (KS2/3) who doesn’t just teach the curriculum, but unlocks the world for some of our most bright, unique, and wonderful autistic young people. If your teaching toolkit relies less on rigid rules and more on passion, patience, and a healthy dose of creativity, we want you!
You will lead a dedicated Key Stage 3 class tailored specifically for pupils with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) and associated communication needs. You will guide them through their crucial secondary years, bridging the gap between academic progress and crucial life skills.
What You’ll Do Every Day:
- Tailor the Triumph: Craft deeply personalised, highly visual, and sensory-friendly learning journeys that cater to individual spikes and profiles.
- Decode the Room: Read between the lines. You’ll instinctively know when a pupil needs a sensory break, a deep-pressure moment, or a sudden pivot to a high-interest topic (yes, even if it means teaching maths via Minecraft or history through train timetables!).
- Champion the Future: Prepare our KS3/4 students for the big wide world—balancing functional skills, entry-level qualifications, or GCSEs with essential independent living skills.
- Lead Your Dream Team: Command a small squad of highly skilled, passionate Teaching Assistants. You’ll be the captain of a collaborative ship that keeps the classroom calm, structured, and predictable.
Who You Are:
- The Structured Maverick: You thrive on TEACCH principles, PECS, colourful semantics, or Attention Autism, but you aren’t afraid to throw out the lesson plan if the energy in the room shifts.
- An ASC Advocate: You hold a QTS/QTLS status and have a proven track record (or an undeniable passion) for working with secondary-aged ASC individuals.
- The Zen Master: Calm is your superpower. De-escalation is your art form. You bring a low-arousal presence to high-energy moments.
- A Communication Wizard: You build iron-clad bridges of trust with parents, speech and language therapists, and external support networks.
What’s In It For You?
- Small Class Sizes: Say goodbye to crowds of 30. Enjoy tiny, intimate groups where you can actually make a measurable difference every single day.
- Massive Autonomy: Want to build a sensory garden? Want to turn the classroom into an immersive space station? We back your creative freedom.
- Genuine Wellbeing Support: A leadership team that understands SEND burnout is real. We offer realistic planning expectations, collaborative marking policies, and regular mental health days.
