We are recruiting for a highly respected, independent SEND school that provides an exceptional learning environment for children and young adults from KS1 to Post 16 with a diagnosis of autism.

The Opportunity
As a Music Teacher, you will deliver a creative, highly adapted, and engaging music curriculum across a broad age range. You will work with primary-aged children exploring sound for the first time, all the way up to young adults building vocational and creative skills for the future.
This is a 12-month fixed-term contract offering an incredibly rewarding opportunity to make a lasting impact within a supportive, multi-disciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver highly differentiated, creative music lessons tailored to the unique sensory and communication needs of learners with autism.
- Engage pupils through a variety of musical mediums, including singing, percussion, digital music production (e.g., GarageBand), and sensory music play.
- Manage classroom environments effectively, utilising visual schedules, low-arousal techniques, and positive behavioural support.
- Collaborate closely with an in-house therapeutic team, including Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs) and Occupational Therapists (OTs).
- Assess and record student progress using the school’s bespoke SEND tracking frameworks, celebrating non-linear and holistic achievements.
What We Are Looking For
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), QTLS, or a recognised specialist music teaching qualification is preferred. (Highly experienced SEND instructors or Music Therapists looking for classroom experience are welcome to apply).
- Proven experience teaching or supporting learners with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and associated communication difficulties.
- A patient, resilient, and empathetic nature, with the ability to think on your feet and adapt lessons dynamically to meet sensory needs.
- Knowledge of alternative communication methods (e.g., PECS, Makaton, visual timetables).
