The Opportunity
Are you a passionate Maths Teacher looking to step away from the relentless data tracking of mainstream classrooms and move into a setting where you can truly focus on the individual learner?
We are proud to be partnering with an outstanding specialist day school for young people aged 11–19 on the autism spectrum. The school provides an exceptionally supportive, low-arousal environment where class sizes are strictly capped at 6–8 students.
Many pupils here have highly “spiky” academic profiles—some struggle with functional numeracy, while others are exceptionally gifted and studying towards high-grade GCSEs and A-Levels. This is a rare chance to use your subject expertise to transform the educational experience of neurodivergent learners.
The Role
- Deliver engaging, highly differentiated Maths lessons across KS3, KS4, and KS5.
- Teach a variety of pathways tailored to pupil ability, ranging from Functional Skills and GCSE to A-Level.
- Utilise creative, concrete, and visual resources to make abstract mathematical concepts accessible.
- Collaborate with an expert multidisciplinary team, including in-house Speech and Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists.
- Manage the learning environment using proactive, positive behaviour strategies and a deep understanding of sensory profiles.
The Ideal Candidate
- Must hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS.
- Possesses a strong degree or background in Mathematics or a related STEM subject.
- Has proven experience supporting young people with Autism (ASD), ADHD, PDA, or associated speech, language, and communication needs.
- Mainstream Maths Teachers with a genuine passion for SEN and a desire to transition into special education are highly encouraged to apply.
- An empathetic, resilient nature with the ability to build quick, trusting relationships with anxious learners.
