Science Teacher (KS3–KS4) – Specialist Autism School

We supporting a welcoming and inclusive specialist school dedicated to supporting pupils with a diagnosis of autism to find a science teacher. The school provides a structured, nurturing, and supportive learning environment where students are encouraged to develop academically, socially, and emotionally.

The pupils, aged 11–16 (KS3–KS4), benefit from small class sizes, personalised learning programmes, and a highly collaborative staff team. Staff are committed to helping every student build confidence, independence, and a lifelong curiosity for learning.

The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Science Teacher to join our team and deliver engaging Science lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. The successful candidate will have a passion for making science accessible, practical, and meaningful for students with autism and associated learning needs.

You will play a key role in planning differentiated lessons, supporting pupils’ individual needs, and helping students develop both scientific knowledge and important life skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging Science lessons across KS3 and KS4.
  • Adapt teaching strategies and resources to meet the diverse needs of pupils with autism.
  • Create a structured, calm, and supportive classroom environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, providing clear feedback and support.
  • Contribute to Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and EHCP outcomes.
  • Support students’ social communication, independence, and emotional regulation.
  • Promote a positive attitude toward science and encourage curiosity and practical exploration.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Experience teaching Science at KS3 and KS4.
  • An understanding of autism and neurodiversity (experience in SEND settings is desirable).
  • Strong classroom management and behaviour support strategies.
  • A flexible, patient, and compassionate approach to teaching.
  • The ability to differentiate learning to meet a wide range of abilities.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working in a specialist or SEND school.
  • Knowledge of autism-friendly teaching strategies (e.g., visual supports, structured learning approaches).
  • Experience supporting students with sensory needs, anxiety, or communication differences.
