New SEND places to create more inclusive classrooms in mainstream schools, delivering on Plan for Change to break down barriers to opportunity.
More children and young people will be supported to achieve and thrive in their local school, as the government today announces that 10,000 new school places will be funded for children with SEND, delivering on Plan for Change.
£740 million is being invested by the government to deliver adaptations, expand specialist units in mainstream as well as create new places in special schools – enabling more children to succeed at a school close to their homes and families.

Almost all (98%) of the respondents to a National Association of Head Teachers’ (NAHT) poll covering England, Wales and Northern Ireland said they did not have the resources to meet the needs of all their pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (Send).
12/05/25School Skatepark officially opens at a Kent School
A "first of its kind" school skatepark has officially opened. Top riders presented the new facility at Folkestone Academy, Kent, to the local community during an event on Saturday that drew in hundreds of people. The academy, part of Turner Schools, says it hopes the park will offer young people a safe, controlled environment to develop their skills, build confidence and exercise more.
