Key Stage Secondary

Job Description

Are you a passionate educator ready to make a real difference in the lives of young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?

Join our dedicated and supportive team at a specialist SEMH secondary school, where every day is a chance to inspire, engage, and transform lives.

About the Role:

We are seeking a dynamic and adaptable General Cover Teacher to work across Key Stages 3 and 4, delivering a broad and balanced curriculum to students with SEMH needs. This is an exciting opportunity to join a school that prioritises student well-being, therapeutic support, and tailored education.

You will be covering lessons across a range of subjects with pre-prepared materials or your own lesson plans, depending on the school’s needs. The role may include pastoral responsibilities and active participation in the wider school community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging and accessible lessons across a range of subjects
  • Adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs and behavioural profiles
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment
  • Collaborate with SENCOs, Teaching Assistants, and therapists to support individual education plans (IEPs)
  • Manage classroom behaviour using trauma-informed and restorative approaches
  • Monitor and report on student progress

About the School:

  • A supportive, specialist secondary school dedicated to SEMH students
  • Small class sizes (typically 6–10 students per class)
  • Excellent pastoral and behavioural support teams
  • Focus on building trust, resilience, and lifelong learning skills
  • On-site training and ongoing CPD opportunities in trauma-informed practice, de-escalation, and more

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

✅ QTS / QTLS (or relevant teaching qualification)
✅ Experience teaching or supporting students with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs
✅ Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
✅ A compassionate, patient, and resilient approach to teaching
✅ Ability to differentiate lessons to meet diverse needs
✅ A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

Desirable but not essential:

  • Team Teach, MAPA, or similar behaviour training
  • Experience working in a PRU, alternative provision, or specialist SEMH setting
  • Subject specialism in English, Maths, Science, PE, or PSHE

What We Offer:

  • Competitive daily rates and weekly pay
  • Dedicated consultant support (if through an agency)
  • Opportunities for permanent contracts or long-term placements
  • Access to tailored CPD and training
  • The chance to make a meaningful difference every single day
