Job Description

Are you passionate about supporting young people’s education and wellbeing? Do you want to make a real difference in the lives of students with complex and unique needs?

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our team at a very specialist school – the first inpatient mental health unit for children and young people in Kent. You will play a key role in supporting students’ learning, development, and wellbeing in a highly specialised environment.

You will work closely with our teaching and clinical teams, helping pupils to overcome barriers to learning and enabling them to achieve their potential.

All inpatients from KS3 to KS5 attend education at the school with the aim of continuing their education and integrating back to an educational placement on discharge from hospital.

Young people join classes at any time of the year dependent on their admission to hospital.  The small and nurturing environment supports young people to engage with their education and develop useful life skills during their hospital stay.

The education timetable runs alongside the Occupational Therapy timetable at the hospital allowing the students to have a structured day of education and therapies.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support teaching and learning for students in the inpatient mental health setting
  • Adapt approaches to meet pupils’ emotional and academic needs
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is resilient, adaptable, and empathetic
  • Has experience working with children or young people (experience in a mental health or SEN setting is a bonus)
  • Is committed to making a difference
  • The school is located in a rural setting, so own transport would be required.

We are seeking a resilient, nurturing, and enthusiastic SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our secondary school team and support students who require additional help to thrive both academically and emotionally.
