The Opportunity

This is a dual-aspect role combining classroom teaching with middle leadership. You will teach a small, nurture-based KS2 class while driving pedagogical standards across the primary phase. You will champion communication-rich environments and mentor staff to deliver highly individualised learning pathways.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Teaching & Learning

  • Deliver highly differentiated lessons adapting to varied cognitive profiles.
  • Integrate speech, language, and occupational therapy targets into daily planning.
  • Utilise visual structures, low-arousal strategies, and total communication tools.
  • Assess progress using both holistic frameworks and adapted academic metrics.

 

Phase Leadership

  • Line manage KS2 teachers, higher level teaching assistants, and teaching assistants.
  • Lead phase moderation, curriculum review, and learning walks.
  • Coordinate transition planning from KS1 and into Key Stage 3.
  • Model exemplary autism-specific teaching practice for the wider team.

 

Person Specification

 

  • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Experience: Teaching ASD pupils, with leadership experience.
  • Expertise: Deep knowledge of the KS2 National Curriculum and sensory processing.
  • Skills: Strong crisis-de-escalation skills and positive behaviour support strategies.
  • Attributes: Resilient, empathetic, collaborative, and highly organised.
