SEN Teaching Assistant (1:2 Support) – Restraint Training Required
Location: Chatham, UK
Salary: FTE £27,300 – £105 a day
Contract: Full-time, Term-time only
Start Date: Immediate Start
Are you an experienced Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding, focused role?
We are seeking a dedicated and resilient practitioner to work 1:2 with two Year 7 pupils who have a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) in place.
This role requires an individual who can provide structured, empathetic support to help these students successfully transition into their secondary education. Due to the specific behavioural and sensory needs of the pupils, a valid certificate in a recognised restraint and de-escalation framework (such as Team Teach, Price, or MAPA) is an absolute requirement.
Key Responsibilities
- Dual Support: Deliver tailored 1:2 academic and emotional support to two Year 7 boys, ensuring their EHCP targets are met.
- Behaviour Management: Utilise positive behaviour support plans to manage challenging behaviours and prevent escalation.
- Sensory Regulation: Implement sensory breaks and strategies to help the students manage anxiety and sensory overload.
- Safe Intervention: Apply approved de-escalation techniques and, only when absolutely necessary as a last resort, safe handling/restraint techniques.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the Teachers, SENCO, and external therapists to track and report progress.
Candidate Requirements
- Certification: Must hold a current, accredited certification in physical intervention/restraint handling (e.g., Team Teach, MAPA, PROACT-SCIPr, or PRICE).
- Experience: Proven experience working with secondary-aged children (Key Stage 3) with ASC and complex behavioural needs.
- Knowledge: A strong understanding of EHCPs and how to implement specific strategies outlined within them.
- Attributes: Exceptional patience, resilience, a calm demeanour under pressure, and a passion for inclusive education.
- Vetting: Must hold or be willing to apply for an Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service.
What We Offer
- A highly supportive and collaborative staff team.
- Dedicated internal professional development and tailored induction.
- The opportunity to make a profound, visible impact on two students’ educational journeys.
