Are you passionate about empowering young people to develop crucial life skills? We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Functional Skills Tutor to join our vibrant Post-16 Special Educational Needs provision.
In this role, you will deliver tailored Maths and English provisions to young adults with diverse learning needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), and associated communication needs. You will focus on building independent living skills and preparing our learners for adulthood, employment, or further education.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver tailored lessons: Design and deliver engaging, highly differentiated Functional Skills sessions in English and Maths.
- Support independent living: Embed practical, real-world scenarios into learning to help students build confidence in everyday life.
- Track student progress: Implement individualised education plans (IEPs) and adapt teaching methods to accommodate varied learning styles and sensory profiles.
- Foster a safe environment: Maintain a structured, positive, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes emotional regulation and personal growth.
- Collaborate with support staff: Work closely with Learning Support Assistants (LSAs), therapists, and families to provide holistic care and development.
Requirements
- Teaching Qualification: QTS, QTLS, PGCE, or a recognised post-16 teaching qualification (e.g., Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training).
- SEN Experience: Proven experience working with young people with complex SEN or neurodivergent profiles in an educational setting.
- Subject Expertise: Strong knowledge of the UK Functional Skills curriculum framework from Entry Levels up to Level 2.
- Key Attributes: Exceptional patience, adaptability, a sense of humour, and excellent behaviour management skills.
