We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and creative History Teacher to join our specialist SEN school, supporting learners in KS3 and KS4 with a diagnosis of ASD.Ā The successful candidate will deliver engaging and accessible History lessons that inspire curiosity while meeting pupilsā individual learning needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver differentiated History lessons in line with the national curriculum and personalised learning plans.
- Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet a range of communication, sensory, and processing needs associated with autism.
- Create a calm, structured, and supportive classroom environment that fosters confidence, independence, and a love of learning.
- Collaborate with SENCOs, therapists, support staff, and families to ensure a holistic approach to pupil development.
- Use visual supports, scaffolding, and multi-sensory approaches to enhance student understanding and engagement.
- Assess and record learner progress, providing clear feedback and contributing to EHCP reviews and reports.
- Promote positive behaviour through consistent routines, clear expectations, and supportive strategies.
- Participate in staff training, team meetings, and ongoing professional development.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- Experience teaching History, ideally across KS3āKS4.
- Strong understanding of autism and experience working in SEN settings or with neurodiverse learners.
- Ability to differentiate effectively and teach creatively to support varied learning styles.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, empathetic approach.
Desirable Experience
- Experience delivering Entry Level, ASDAN, Functional Skills, or alternative accreditation pathways.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practice, sensory integration, or other specialist strategies.
